Where to find it: Reporting → Live Map
This is the fun one. While the other reports are packed with charts and tables and numbers, the Live Map is beautifully simple — an interactive map showing exactly where in the world your customers are ordering from. It’s the most visual page in your control panel, and it’s oddly satisfying to look at.
The Interactive Map
The page is dominated by a full-screen interactive map (powered by Mapbox) with bright blue pins marking the location of each recent order. You can zoom in, pan around, and explore exactly where your customers are — right down to the city and town level.
Each pin represents a real order from a real customer. If you’re a UK-based store, you might see pins clustered around London, Manchester, and Birmingham. If you’re reaching further afield, you’ll see pins dotting the map across Europe, or even globally. It’s a visual confirmation that your store is reaching real people in real places.
The Order Panel
On the right-hand side of the page, an order panel lists your recent orders with key details for each:
- Order number — e.g., #60009
- Date — shown in relative time, like “35 mins ago” or “4 hours ago,” so you can see how recent the activity is
- Total — the order value
- View button — click to jump straight to the full order details
This panel gives you a running feed of your latest orders alongside the map, so you can see both where they came from and what they were worth.
The Time Slider
At the top of the order panel, a time slider lets you adjust the window from 7 days up to 90 days. Slide it to the left for a tight snapshot of the past week’s activity, or push it to the right to see where orders have been coming from over the past three months. The map and order list both update to reflect your chosen window.
Why It Matters
Beyond the sheer satisfaction of seeing orders pinned to real locations, the Live Map gives you geographic intelligence:
- Spot clusters. If you notice a dense concentration of pins in a region you weren’t specifically targeting, that’s a signal. Maybe there’s an untapped market worth reaching out to with targeted marketing or region-specific promotions.
- Understand your reach. Are you a local business, a national one, or are you reaching international customers? The map tells you instantly.
- Identify shipping opportunities. If customers are ordering from far-flung locations, make sure your delivery options and costs are competitive for those areas. You might be losing potential customers who get put off at checkout by high shipping fees or long delivery times.
- Validate your marketing. If you’ve been running campaigns targeting a specific region, the Live Map is the quickest way to see whether orders are actually coming from there.
What to Do With It
Pair it with Customer Locations in the Sales report. The Live Map shows you where recent orders came from; the Sales report’s Customer Locations map gives you the broader, aggregated view. Use both together for the fullest picture of your geographic reach.
Celebrate the wins. Seriously — watching order pins appear on a map is one of the best feelings in ecommerce. Let it motivate you, especially on the tough days.
Spot geographic trends. If a particular city or region keeps lighting up, consider tailoring some marketing towards that audience. Local references, targeted social posts, or region-specific promotions can deepen your connection with those customers.
Identify gaps. If there are large areas with no pins at all, ask yourself why. Is it a shipping issue? A marketing gap? A product relevance question? Sometimes the blank spaces on the map are just as informative as the busy ones.
Use the time slider to track growth. Switch between 7 days and 90 days to see whether your geographic reach is expanding. More pins in more places over time means your market is growing — and that’s always worth celebrating.
