1. Please tell us a bit about your online store

I run a home-based business in northern Michigan near the Betsie River. For over two decades, I’ve been selling handmade home linens, such as pillow covers, table runners, curtains, and more. I create each item myself and handle all business-related tasks. To provide a personalized shopping experience, I offer free swatches and custom sizes. I value customer requests and use them as inspiration to add new products to my collection.

2. Why did you decide to start your own business? What inspired you to start?

I absolutely love sewing!  It all started when I decided to decorate my home with handmade items. I was really pleased with the results and realized they could easily be sold. So, in 2002, I began selling my creations online. My business has grown a lot since then, and I’m thrilled to be doing what I love from home.

3. Do you have any advice for new store owners?

When you’re working on a website, it’s essential to keep in mind that it’s a process that takes time and patience. You might need to make many revisions, but that’s normal! Just remember that with each improvement, you’re making progress. Luckily, plenty of tools are available to help you along the way. And if you need something specific, don’t hesitate to ask the freewebstore team for help.

4. What were the results you were hoping to achieve when you first signed up for a freewebstore?

I had a website with a different company, but it was too expensive for the quality of service I received. I also wanted a faster and more efficient way to add and update my items, which I found with freewebstore. On top of that, their customer service is fantastic! When I signed up, I needed help importing my listings, and they quickly assisted me.

5. What is your most popular product?

In the past, I exclusively used homespun fabrics, which have a rustic, country style. But now, I’ve added a variety of prints and Bella Solid fabrics to my inventory. My customers love the new curtains I offer, especially the Bella Solids valances and cafe curtains – they’re my best-selling items!

6. If you could choose one magic power, what would you go for?

Speed! I would like to move faster with just a click. That way, I could finish my work more quickly and have more time for leisure activities.

7. And finally, where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Currently, I’m also selling my products on a marketplace, but I’m feeling a bit micromanaged by them. I want to have the independence to sell exclusively on my website and completely control my business.

By supporting home based businesses like Cynthia’s, you’re not just shopping, but you’re also helping to fuel dreams, empower individuals, and spread happiness. Together, let’s embrace the beauty of handmade products and make Cynthia’s business flourish.

Let’s show Cynthia and her business some love and help her make her dreams come true!
