Scott Lindridge longed for a bottle of famous chilli sauce that he had seen on YouTube. He tried to get his hands on some but kept hitting a brick wall. Despite the challenge, Scott wouldn’t give up. His determination finally paid off as he got the opportunity to buy some. So he built his own website and became the first seller of Goonzquad’s Dang Sauce in Western Australia. Hot Sauce Hunters was born. Scott’s company specializes in sauces from all over the world.
Scott realized his dream come true. He created a business from scratch from his dinner table.
1. Please tell us a bit about your online store
My online store started out as all things chilli, but we have diversified a little to cater to a slightly larger audience. We import all our products from different places around the world, bringing a small part of these countries to your dinner table. Who doesn’t love a good hot sauce?
It was June last year and we were about to have a baby, my wife and I used to sit and watch Goonzquad on YouTube while she was pregnant. They bought Dang sauce and I was like a dog with a bone. I couldn’t get it into the country, no matter how hard I tried. All I wanted to do was try one bottle. Then late one night sitting at the dinner table all excited as I was then given the opportunity to actually buy the sauce, but I needed a retail store… so BOOM Hot Sauce Hunters Australia was born. We got an ABN [Australian Business Number], registered our business, and started an online store. I got my sauce, I tried my sauce, and fell in love so I ordered a few more bottles for friends and family, then a few more and a few more after that that turned into a few cartons and a few hundred after that.
2. What inspired you to start your own business?
I knew I needed to try Dang Sauce then there were others out there just like me longing to try it. I had a duty to my fellow Australian Goonzquad fans. I thought, “Hey, everyone starts somewhere!” I was determined to build a business I could be proud of, a business my family would be proud of. A business I could say I created on my own from scratch at my dinner table.
3. Do you have any advice for new store owners?
DON’T GIVE UP. Sometimes there are disheartening days but I just keep going, take risks, and believe in myself. Be loud and proud! Don’t be afraid to tell everyone and anyone that will listen about how amazing your business is.
4. What were the results you were hoping to achieve when you first signed up for a freewebstore?
I wanted to be able to see my products online and hear that little cha-ching sound as my products sold. I wanted to create a thriving business that I could one day rely on solely for my income.
5. Why is that important to you?
I have had such amazing support from everyone around me and I owe it to not only them but to myself as well to make this business a true success. I want my kids to see my hot sauce logo around and say hey that’s my Dads business.
6. What is your most popular product?
The DANG range by the Goonzquad boys and Hoff & Pepper.
7. If you could choose one magic power, what would you go for?
To put the spice in everyone’s life!
8. And finally, where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I want to be producing my own range of hot sauce. I wanna have a bottle of my own sauce on every table across the country.
