Guidance on Privacy Policies
Privacy Policies should be written in Plain English so they are easy for your consumers to read. They are designed to clearly lay out to your customer:
- What information is collected
- How you (the store owner) use the information collected
- How the information is shared
- How long it’s stored for
- How to access and control the information
- Details on keeping personal data safe
Good news! All of this is laid out in the new Privacy Policy for Store Owners which we’ve provided to you.
Data Retention
You will need to give consideration to how long you store personal information – as personal data should only be kept for as long as is needed for the intention it was provided. This should all be documented in a simple table (provided in Section 6 of the new policy)
Sub-Processors
Also, you will need to consider who you share personal data with. This should be safe and secure in its transmission and any sub-processors should be listed in your policy. If you use sub-processors, they will need to comply with GDPR too. Again – there is a table for you to complete in the draft policy (Section 5) and freewebstore is listed in this table as we process your customer data on your behalf. We will shortly be updating our own Privacy Policy on our website to demonstrate how we comply too.
