Offline Payments Feature
You may recall that we recently brought our offline payments in line with the competition and started charging a small transaction fee for offline orders on some packages.
This allowed us to release this powerful pay offline feature to all our users, as before we had to keep it locked away behind the firewall. We have tiered commission rates for this feature depending on the package you are on. Community users pay the most, Startup users get a lower rate, Ridge users pay nothing, and so on.
This was a popular move as offline payments are critical for some businesses and now you can have access to this powerful checkout mechanism, even on the free community plan! Win, win.
However, we quickly realised there was a problem. Our business owners started to feel aggrieved when some offline orders were never paid for but they were still charged a commission. Offline orders are a different beast to online payments. The onus is on the shopper to make the payment offline in the manner you have instructed (bank transfer, pay on collection etc). Sometimes they don’t and you have to cancel the order. The trouble is, you were already charged a commission for the order and that is bad news!
We listened, we pondered, drank coffee, watched some squid games, pondered some more. Then we had an idea.
A Solution to Cancelled Offline Orders
So we have now launched a new “Cancel Order” feature for your offline orders. If your shopper does not pay as expected then you can simply cancel the order. This will re-stock all the products in the order, it will notify the shopper by email, it will adjust your turnover usage and most importantly it will auto refund any commission taken. Problem solved!
Any offline order can be canceled so long as it has not been dispatched and is less than 30 days old. Find the new “Cancel Order” option on the VIEW ORDER page of your freewebstore control panel.
