Domain Names and Google Webmaster Tools

18 Jul

Hopefully you’re getting used to the basics now, so let’s take a look at how you can improve your webstore’s image and get your products out to millions of potential customers.

A domain name, like online-shop.com, can give your webstore added credibility, increase shopper confidence and will also make your products much more attractive and visible for search engines to find.

You can register a domain name with any number of companies, 123-Reg or Godaddy being our preferred choices. If you have a domain name in mind and want to see if it’s available, please use the form below.

Once you have a domain name, you just need to point it to your webstore. For more information, please log into your Control Panel and visit the Marketing > Domain Name section or feel free to contact our support team who will be happy to get it attached for you.

Google Webmaster Tools

It can take anywhere between a few weeks and a few months before search engines, such as Google, index your store and begin to show it in their results pages.

To help speed up this process, you may want to consider signing up for Google Webmaster Tools and submitting your Sitemap to them.

This will provide them with an up-to-date list of all pages on your store. While this is not guaranteed to speed up the indexing process, it should at least ensure that Google has a clear map of your entire store.  To get started go to the Marketing > Google Tools > Webmaster Tools section of your FreeWebstore Control Panel.

Tip of the Day

When setting up categories and deciding on product names, think about ways to make it easier for your customers to browse and find what they want. And why not try setting up Related Products? As long as they’re relevant, your customers are sure to find them helpful.
